Lorenzo wins at Silverstone

Postby Sundar.f1 » Sun Jun 20, 2010 6:03 pm

Lorenzo on top in British GP

Jorge Lorenzo seemed every inch the champion elect as he cruised to a dominant win at the new Silverstone circuit with consummate ease. The rest of the title contenders were engaged in a no hold barred dog fight for the remaining podium places. Suffice to say that Valentino's injury is the only reason Repsol Honda is closing down the gap to Fiat Yamaha in the teams' standings.

The race was action packed, with a battle for the lead in the opening lap between Pedrosa and Lorenzo, the former slipping down the field gradually to 8th. Randy de Puniet and Ben Spies, the surprise performers in qualifying put up a strong showing, with the latter notching up a podium place, snatching it away from Hayden on the final lap.

The Ducatis were unable to match the Yamaha and Honda racers here, probably due to the bike's sensitivity to the bumpy track surface. It was a superb battle between Spies and the Ducati riders and they were covered by less than half a second when they crossed the line.

Lorenzo extended his already considerable lead in the championship, while Andrea Dovizioso moved up to second in the standings.

Dutch GP

Lorenzo won the Dutch GP in absence of Rossi, his fourth win in six races ensuring that he is now 47 points clear of Dani Pedrosa. Stoner finished a disappointed and distant third, 4s behind Pedrosa..

Talking about Valentino Rossi, he now sets an eye to return to MotoGP for the Brno round in August is now realistic after a positive start to his recovery from his broken leg.

"Three weeks have passed since the accident and two since I was discharged from hospital, and I am very happy about how my recuperation is progressing," said Rossi.

"I am feeling a lot better and I'm starting to live a semi-normal life again, although for a completely 'normal' life I will have to wait until I'm back on my bike.

"I am walking with crutches and since a few days I've been able to put my foot to the floor. Honestly, I didn't expect to feel this good just a few weeks after the incident, and I mean both physically and in my spirit.

Yamaha has announced that it will promote test rider Wataru Yoshikawa to the race team for Catalunya, the Sachsenring and Laguna Seca in Rossi's absence.

This title is turning out to be a farce without Rossi. I don't think this championship will be of any value to Lorenzo compared to winning one with Rossi participating.

Hey - thanks for this thread guys - I'm meeting up with a MotoGP mad friend tomorrow - he always talks about the F1 with me and is disappointed that I don't know much about MotoGP - so I have read and inwardly digested the points in this thread and hopefully tomorrow he won't be disappointed with me!

Actually, when I was a kid I was more into motorbikes than F1 - maybe I should re-visit? ;) (But those were the days of Barry Sheen and Kenny Roberts - )

Lorenzo wins in front of home crowd at Barcelona

Postby Nin13 » Mon Jul 12, 2010 5:09 pm

Jorge Lorenzo became the first Yamaha rider to win three successive premier class races from pole position since Eddie Lawson did so in 1986 when he took his fifth win of the 2010 campaign at the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya on Sunday. The Spanish rider is now 52 points clear at the top as he continued his phenomenal run of form in taking his second win on home soil this season.

Dani Pedrosa (Respol Honda) made one of his rapid starts and led into Turn 1 as he shot through from row two, but then ran wide coming out and had dropped down to ninth by the end of lap one as he lost the advantage. It was an error Pedrosa managed to recover in the early laps however and before too long he was up to third.

Aleix Espargaró (Pramac Racing) had a run-off as he pushed hard to move up the order and Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) started a fight for the lead with Lorenzo (Fiat Yamaha) on lap three when he overtook to move into first, but it was a lead Lorenzo regained on the next lap as the battle lines were drawn.
When chasing in third place Casey Stoner (Ducati Team) ran off track shortly after and dropped to fifth as Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda) and Pedrosa came through, and Espargaró suffered disappointment in his home race when he crashed out on lap six.

Lap 14 proved to be an eventful one as first Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini) crashed out when in sixth as he chased his best premier class finish to date. Then, in a decisive moment for the race, Dovizioso also went down as he pushed himself when chasing Lorenzo at the front, rejoining the race in 15th place shortly after.

With that, Lorenzo was clear by just over 5.5s with less than half the race to go, and Stoner and Pedrosa began duelling for second place with De Puniet further back in fourth. Lorenzo’s lead proved to be too much and he crossed the line 4.754s clear to take his fifth win of the season. Pedrosa won the scrap for second by just two-tenths of a second from Stoner, as the podium of the previous round at Assen was repeated.

Fourth place and his best result of the campaign so far went to De Puniet after yet another impressive ride on the satellite RC212V of the LCR Honda team, and in fifth with a superb ride was rookie Álvaro Bautista as he produced a magnificent effort on his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R.

Ben Spies (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) continued his progress with sixth place on another new circuit, and Loris Capirossi (Rizla Suzuki), Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team), Marco Melandri (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) – on his return from a dislocated shoulder – and Héctor Barberá (Páginas Amarillas Aspar) all finished inside the top ten, with Dovizioso eventually finishing 14th.

Lorenzo now has 165 points with Pedrosa on 113 in second. Dovizioso remains third and is on 91, with Hayden, De Puniet and Stoner all leapfrogging the absent Valentino Rossi to fill positions four to six.

Dani Pedrosa Wins The German MotoGP Race

Postby Nin13 » Sun Jul 18, 2010 3:11 pm

Brilliant race by Pedrosa to keep his title hopes alive.
Good comeback by Rossi to have been fighting with Stoner all the way for 3rd race. Finally it gets exciting again.

The race was stopped after nine complete laps due to a fiery three-bike accident involving ninth-place Randy de Puniet, Pramac Ducati's Aleix Espargaro and Alvaro Bautista.

Lorenzo On Pole In Laguna Seca

Postby Nin13 » Sun Jul 25, 2010 5:15 pm

The World Championship leader won a marvellous contest with Casey Stoner for first spot on the starting grid at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, with a blistering late lap of 1’20.978 to take his 40th career pole.

Jorge Lorenzo took his fifth consecutive pole position of the campaign on Saturday with a fantastic display in qualifying at Laguna Seca, in which he and Casey Stoner battled to the very end for top spot on the starting grid. Having both lapped consistently fast it was the Fiat Yamaha rider who finally took pole with his penultimate lap of the session, a 1’20.978, which made him the only rider of the weekend so far to have broken the 1’21” barrier.

Ducati Team rider Stoner had competed with Lorenzo for the latter half of the session and led for much of it, his time of 1’21.169 the best of a consistent set of fast turns. The Australian looked to be on the verge of his second pole of the season but eventually ended the session 0.191s off Lorenzo.

Securing third spot on the grid and taking his first ever front-row start in the premier class Repsol Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso was a fraction over six-tenths off Lorenzo’s marker, thus underlining the level to which the top two had pushed one another. Italian Dovizioso set his best time on his 36th and final lap.

Heading up the second row, which was separated by 0.071s, will be last year’s race winner Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), who was just under four-hundredths off his team-mate. Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider Ben Spies was impressive once more and will go for home glory from fifth after his final lap slotted him in front of Valentino Rossi, as the reigning World Champion secured sixth, repeating his position from both practice sessions.

The top ten was completed by American duo Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) and Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech3), and rookies Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) and Héctor Barberá (Páginas Amarillas Aspar).

Mika Kallio (Pramac Racing) had a crash at the top of the corkscrew at the very end of the session, following his fall in the earlier practice, and Roger Lee Hayden (LCR Honda) had a run off at the same spot and another at turn nine in a complicated session for the stand-in.

One thing I will say is that Moto GP missed Rossi.... in fact became almost boring in his absence. Great to see him back.

Brilliant return for Rossi, considering 6 weeks ago.... and the last couple of laps of he and Casey swapping position for 3rd were excellent. I would have liked to see Rossi on the podium, just to make another career highlight. Hardly a Niki Lauda comeback, but still pretty impressive.

Victory for Lorenzo at Laguna Seca extends Championship lead

Postby Nin13 » Wed Jul 28, 2010 6:15 pm

The Fiat Yamaha rider won his sixth race of the 2010 campaign at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix after Dani Pedrosa crashed out when leading. Second place for Casey Stoner marked his best result of the season so far, whilst Valentino Rossi finished an admirable third.

Jorge Lorenzo’s Championship lead was stretched to 72 points at Laguna Seca as the Fiat Yamaha rider won the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix ahead of Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi, in a round nine race that saw Dani Pedrosa crash out when leading.

A trademark lightning start from Pedrosa saw him lead into turn one of the first lap and the Spaniard appeared to be making a similar break for victory as he had done in the previous round, as he led for the early part of the race whilst setting a fierce pace.

However, on Lap 11 and with Lorenzo pressuring him for the lead the Repsol Honda rider crashed out at turn five, leaving his fellow Spaniard to take his M1 to a sixth win of the season as he tasted victory on the Californian circuit for the first time.

In second place at 3.517s behind Ducati Team rider Casey Stoner scored his best result of the season so far – his fourth podium in a row – and a comfortable finish with a distance of almost ten seconds back to third place. That was taken by Valentino Rossi, the reigning World Champion achieving a superb podium finish in only his second race back from injury and one which he worked hard for throughout the race.

There were early ends to the race for rookies Álvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki) and Héctor Barberá (Páginas Amarillas Aspar), the former of whom crashed whilst the latter retired, neither making it past lap four. By that stage Pedrosa was already rapid at the front with Stoner matching him for pace, but on lap five Lorenzo – who had dropped to fourth at the start – managed to pass the Australian who ran wide at turn three.

Then the drama really kicked in as Pedrosa crashed, leaving Lorenzo first with Stoner not far behind, and Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) in third with an almost two-second margin over those following. However, that gap was quite admirably shredded away by Rossi as he managed to make up the difference, eventually passing his fellow Italian with five laps to go to slot into third.

As the tyres started to go off towards the end there were changes further down the order, as Ben Spies (Monster Yamaha Tech3) and Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) fought for the honour of highest placing American, a duel that presented plenty of enthralling moments of its own.

Lorenzo eventually crossed the line comfortably ahead of Stoner, with Rossi managing to hold off Dovizioso for the final podium spot. Hayden edged out Spies for fifth place, with the latter’s team-mate Colin Edwards seventh. The top ten was completed by Marco Melandri (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team), Mika Kallio (Pramac Racing) and Loris Capirossi (Rizla Suzuki). The remaining two riders to finish the race in 11th and 12th were Roger Lee Hayden (LCR Honda) and Alex de Angelis (Interwetten Honda MotoGP).

Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) suffered the disappointment of crashing out two-thirds of the way through the race when battling with team-mate Melandri for eighth, whilst Aleix Espargaró (Pramac Racing) fell three laps from the end when in a top-ten position.

Lorenzo now has 210 points, with Pedrosa remaining second in the standings on 138 and Dovizioso third on 115.

2010 Czech Republic GP

Postby Nin13 » Thu Aug 19, 2010 5:14 am

The World Championship leader took his seventh victory of the season at the Cardion ab Grand Prix Czech Republic – his first premier class win at the Brno circuit – and stretched his advantage at the top to 77 points in the process.

Jorge Lorenzo’s phenomenal 2010 form continued at the Cardion ab Grand Prix Czech Republic on Sunday where the Fiat Yamaha rider won his seventh race of the season. A front row start was converted into another 25 points by the Spaniard, who maintained his record of having finished inside the top two in every race so far.

The sun was shining in stark contrast to the fears of poor weather that had preceded the race as just over 148,000 enthusiastic fans packed out the Brno circuit, and Lorenzo engaged in an early battle with rival Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) – who started from pole position – for the lead.

There were two early fallers as Loris Capirossi (Rizla Suzuki) and Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) went down inside the opening three laps, the latter managing to avoid collisions with a number of oncoming bikes while stranded in the middle of the track coming out of turn nine. The Italian rejoined the back of the race but was forced to retire shortly after.

Lorenzo and Pedrosa exchanged the fastest lap time in the preliminary stages of the race as they set the pace but the Championship leader slowly began to pull away, the pair well ahead of Casey Stoner (Ducati Team) in third place. Mika Kallio (Pramac Racing) was another victim of misfortune when his difficulties continued as he crashed out.

The riders became more separated as the race reached its finale, and Lorenzo cruised across the line 5.494s ahead of Pedrosa to extend his Championship lead over his fellow Spaniard to 77 points. The Repsol Honda rider was followed onto the podium by Stoner, who finished third at almost six seconds back and moved into third in the Championship ahead of Dovizioso.

Ben Spies (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) placed fourth from his first MotoGP front row grid position having made an impressive start, with Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha) fifth at just over four seconds off the rookie. American duo Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) and Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) were sixth and seventh respectively, with Marco Melandri (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team), Héctor Barberá (Páginas Amarillas Aspar) and the returning Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda) completing the top ten.

A frustrating weekend was finalised for Álvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki) as the rookie slid out on the last corner of the final lap, having just passed Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) who took 11th.

2010 Indianapolis Grand Prix

Postby Nin13 » Wed Sep 01, 2010 12:55 pm

Pedrosa grabs commanding win at Indianapolis
Dani Pedrosa narrowed the gap on Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo to 68 points with seven rounds of the 2010 season remaining by winning the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix on Sunday. It was the Repsol Honda rider’s third win of the campaign, the first time he has achieved three wins in a season in the premier class.

Starting from the second row Pedrosa was on the pace early on and a fastest lap on Lap 2 lifted him into second position, as he set his sights on pole holder Ben Spies. On the end of the seventh lap the Spaniard overtook the rookie on the start/finish straight and never relinquished the lead, eventually crossing the line 3.575 seconds clear of Spies.

For the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider second place marked his best result to date and a second podium in what has already been a fantastic debut season. Spies started from pole – the first of his MotoGP career – and his race result capped off a great weekend which also saw him confirmed as a factory Yamaha rider for 2011.

Completing the podium was championship leader Lorenzo who had started from second on the grid but dropped to fifth at the start of the race. That failed to affect his concentration however and he battled his way past Andrea Dovizioso and into third just before the midway point of the race, finishing just over three seconds off Spies as his phenomenal record of having placed in the top two in every race this season was finally broken.

A complicated weekend for Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha) ended with the reigning World Champion placing fourth in the race, as he won the battle of the Italians with Repsol Honda rider Dovizioso who took fifth. Nicky Hayden was sixth having started from the front row for the first time in his Ducati career.

Rookies Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini) and Álvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki) impressed with seventh and eight places respectively, with Aleix Espargaró (Pramac Racing) and Héctor Barberá (Páginas Amarillas Aspar) completing the top ten. Loris Capirossi, Hiroshi Aoyama – on his return from injury – and Randy de Puniet were the final three riders to finish the race.

Suffering the disappointment of DNFs were Marco Melandri (Lap 2) on his 200th Grand Prix start, Casey Stoner who lost the front end of his Ducati Desmosedici GP10 (Lap 8), Colin Edwards who was forced to retire with rear tyre issues (Lap 17) and Mika Kallio who crashed in turn ten when he hit a bump.

Lorenzo moves onto 251 points with Pedrosa now on 183 in second in the standings. Dovizioso is third on 126, with Stoner now seven points behind in fourth. Rossi remains in fifth while Spies moves up to sixth.
